Melody Street House

Melody Street was originally two separate parcels of land, one with a beautiful but ageing cottage sitting on it. It was our aim to create a new structure, fit for the contemporary family, which connected to the existing building seamlessly. We also wanted to create a definition however, which can be seen in material choices. Raw materials clad the double garage and beautiful limestone leads you to the secluded entrance, past a tucked away sun filled courtyard.

Once inside the play of levels becomes very evident. The elevated seating area, leads into the family room. Stairs take you up to the original cottage and the families private quarters. The core living zones, the kitchen, courtyard, utility rooms and rear garden, are sunken lower. This helps the home blend with the existing landscape.

Our client's were a young family who embodied the typical and desired modern Australia beachside lifestyle. Bright streams of light, open space and a general airiness were vital requirements. They wanted a yard big enough to play cricket and football in and the perfect entertainment area for their winter parties and summer BBQ's. We created a elongated rear yard with a pool and spa nestled comfortably to one end. Tall tree's frame the green zone, creating a private oasis. Large sliding doors are tucked into the walls to create a continual link from courtyard, kitchen, dinning to rear garden.
