Roth's proposed design for Waverley Cemetery's pavilion is simple without being minimal or cold. The proposed classic geometry and simple detailing allows the spaces to support any activity within, be it a funeral ceremony, a meeting or a wedding. The internal spaces are various sizes, each carefully proportioned and planned to be of a human scale and cater from small groups to several hundred people.
The design encourages the overwhelming infinite nature of the horizon and supports the dramatic view to the ocean and to the sky, as well as to other critical elements we believed are fundamental to this sacred site.
Equally, the proposed design separates the private profound experience of mourning, from the variety of other potential experiences of the building.
